At one point in the late 1890’s the hamlet consisted of tavern keeper, shoemaker, mechanic, merchant, innkeeper, marble cutter, blacksmith, school teacher, carpenter, painter, station master, tailor, grocer, and others.

At present, there are a number of businesses and the United Church. The Bethany Post Office is also part of the current community fabric.
