Lotus is located on the 5th Concession of Manvers west of Hwy 35. It is west of Ballyduff and south of Yelverton. This hamlet was established in the mid 1800’s with a saw mill as the main business but supported by a blacksmith, weaver, lumber merchant, shoe maker, innkeeper, mechanic, carpenter, clothier, shop keeper, miller, tanner, wagon maker, church and school.
Family names from the mid 1800’s include – Myers, Ferguson, Hamilton, Humphreys, Ivory Morrison, Parker, Smith, Scott, McCabe, McNelly, Sheckelton, Harvey Gray, Lethangue, McCullough, Sanderson, Strong
While the buildings of the church and school still exist, they are now privately owned for residential purposes.
