Bethany is located on Hwy 7A west of the Cavan/Manvers Boundary. It was established in the 1860’s and grew when the railway ran through the hamlet and a station was established. At this point the hamlet grew and became the largest population centre for Manvers
Family names of this era included – Harrison, Ryley, Craig, Jenkins, Campbell, Wolfendale, Hogan, Elliott, Graham, Jamieson, Stewart, Clarke, Newsom and Kennedy, Brown, Copeland, Gilbank, Bleakly and others.
At one point in the late 1890’s the hamlet consisted of tavern keeper, shoemaker, mechanic, merchant, innkeeper, marble cutter, blacksmith, school teacher, carpenter, painter, station master, tailor, grocer, and others.
At present, there are a number of businesses and the United Church. The Bethany Post Office is also part of the current community fabric.
